WE VISIT Grimsby's Riverhead for this week's Then And Now, writes Dave Strickland.

In my opinion, those who are responsible for rehabilitating the area surrounding the Riverhead are to be commended for achieving a vast improvement in its appearance.

  1. THEN: The Riverhead, Grimsby, in 1933.

THEN: The Riverhead, Grimsby, in 1933.

  2. NOW: The Riverhead area of Grimsby as it looks now

The permanently moored Barge enhances it even further. A far cry from the days when small boys used to dangle their legs on the edge of the quayside, fishing for the equally small aquatic creatures which swam about in the murky water below. I plead guilty!

Seeing old views of the Riverhead makes it hard to imagine it was in the very centre of the town.
