Road works will kill off our trade, say Cleethorpes businesses
TWO major roads through Cleethorpes will become one-way during 22 weeks of road works.
As reported, North East Lincolnshire Council and Balfour Beatty WorkPlace will start renewing the length of Alexandra Road and parts of the Kingsway on September 20.

NOT HAPPY: Terry Allenby, owner of Seaways, in Alexandra Road, said he only found out the plans for the road works two days ago.
The two-phase project will start with Alexandra Road, then move between High Cliff Road and Queens Parade, with work also due to take place outside the leisure centre.
The works will last 14 weeks in Alexandra Road and eight weeks along the Kingsway, during which time both roads will become one-way.
Businesses along the roads fear the works could kill trade.
Tracey Wilkinson, acting manageress for Harry RamsBottoms Fish And Chips, in Alexandra Road, said: "Parking will be a problem which might stop people coming into the shops. It could kill the trade because there will be problems with access and parking."
Side roads will not be repaired but may be closed off.
A council spokesman said: "Balfour Beatty WorkPlace would like to apologise for any disruption caused by these essential maintenance works. Every effort will be made to make sure these are carried out as safely and efficiently as possible."

“Capo di Monte,
You are quite right in what you say. I fully agree with you.
Short term pain, but long term gain.
So stop moaning.
Anyway, the holiday season is just about over, so there will obviously be less trade. You all will probably have had a good few months this summer, so just be thankful for that.
Also, it will be better to do the jobs now, than wait until the winter months and bad weather are upon us.
I am going to send a photograph of a road near Sylhet, Bangladesh. Now that really would make people's eyes water. A lot of the 'roads' are like this.
The holes are filled in with HOUSE BRICKS, which is why the lorry has got stuck.
It is far easier and safer to not try and miss the pot hole, but to look for the shallowest holes.”

“Hey Monkeygod/Pete, That's true and the junction on Victor st Oxford st is like driving over fallen down trees, Yes maybe scrawny thin ones but it's been like that for ages, oxford street too is a patched up lumpy mess but I accept that more major roads should be prioritised.
What I don't accept or understand though is why this council have 3 or 4 sets of road works going on at one time causing frustration around the whole town as we navigate the labyrinth, why not double or treble resources onto one road and have it done much much more quickly which will limit the impact on local business while leaving GY and Clee more easy to travel within.
I guess it's true what they say about wasting every last drop of our resources in this area to ensure the same over budget payout the following year, don't the council get less if they don't spend up?”

“well said some one.....tried it once and never again.
Perhaps Mr Allenby should get a new conveyancer since he has only recently bought the business ? did they not do a search properly to advise of these proposed works ....”
