WITH spring in the air and the cross country running season almost over for another year, athletes from around the region took the opportunity to have a blast around a flat parkland course.

The annual Barton AC Open Cross Country meeting was a success once again, pulling in runners from both sides of the Humber – ensuring some healthy competition and decent quality.

In the combined junior, senior and veteran men's race, the Wolds Veteran Runners Club team of Mick Jagger, Andy Pegg and Dave Wilson took the first team prize, with Jagger finishing fourth overall on the Baysgarth Park course.

The top spot went to promising Under-20 young gun James Lamswood, of Kingston Upon Hull AC.
