Save Our Surgery mobilises against plans to close Leeds children's heart unit
LEGAL action has now started to try to save a regional heart unit – which hundreds of children in North East Lincolnshire rely on – from closing.
The Save Our Surgery (SOS) campaign, established to fight against the decision to close Leeds Children's Heart Unit, has submitted an application to the High Court for permission for a judicial review.
The plea is a final resort after alternative ways to try to change the decision makers' minds were made to no avail.
As reported, plans to close the Leeds unit were made by the Joint Committee Of Primary Care Trusts (JCPCT) on July 4, with implementations to be made by next year.

It would mean young cardiac patients from this area would have to travel to Newcastle, Birmingham or Liverpool.
SOS's application is based on serious concerns, including how the hospitals were scored and compared during a national review of paediatric heart surgery.
The step will now put a halt on the whole process, meaning more time for families to voice concerns.
A High Court judge will now review the legal arguments and determine whether there are merits in the case to decide if the legal challenge can take place.
