Sales growth signals recession ending in our area
NORTH East Lincolnshire is leading the way out of the recession, figures released today have revealed.
Trading figures collected by the Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce show that in the last six months sales have grown for the first time since the second quarter of 2008 – suggesting that the worst is now behind us.

'enormous efforts': Mr Kendall said firms should be congratulated for weathering the storm.
To officially call an end to recession, sales need to grow across two consecutive quarters – something many traders in our area have now achieved.
While growth in sales was expected in the run to Christmas and the January sales, nationally this has not been the case with the number of people hitting the shops on Sunday, January 10 – traditionally the UK's busiest trading day – down 14 per cent on last year.
And, although trading conditions continue to be tough, Richard Kendall, the Chamber's policy executive, said firms should be congratulated for weathering the storm.
He said: "The signs are that the recession in the Humber has ended.
"Businesses and their employees have made enormous efforts to get through an extremely difficult period and they deserve to be congratulated for a positive set of results."

“Steve I'm not sure that I can do justice to all the political, social and economic changes that have taken place from the 70s onwards. The fact is that evidence of the good times of the decade ended are all around us and have not disappeared in the recession - like the NHS keeping pace with escalating expectations and advances in science..and with state of the art facilities. Margaret Thatcher had no strategy for sustainable growth in areas like manufacturing and transport that are vital to Britain. No institution is perfect and politics is about tomorrow, not yesterday. The signals of growth from a representative body like the Humber Chamber match those from other parts of the country - there's a lot still to do and we need positive suggestions about developing and grwoing together.”

“I don't blame foreign workers ONE bit for wanting to come to the UK to work and then sending it all back to their homeland. I would do the same thing. Its the fact they are ALLOWED to do it people should be bothered about. Remember British Jobs for British People?
Another joke in the long list of Labour promises. Thats who people should be mad at but of course, Grimsby being Grimsby, people would vote for a loaf of bread if it had a Red Rosette on it.
Its funny because didn't Labour run this country into the deck in the 70's and it took the Tories 10+ years to straighten it out only for Tony Bliar to stick it back in the ditch again. What short memories people have. Party Of The People my backside.”

“David Sanderson. What's your hang-up about the British worker? I don't see it and I think it must be you who has the problem as you always seem to be so spiteful. Is it because you see so many doing better than yourself and don't know why? I could give you an answer but it's better you chew it over.”

“David Sanderson.
Read the press this morning.
Why do we have to pay the pensions to any EU citizen who can afford the fare to our land of plenty. Many foreign workers only work here to get money to send back to their country of origin. Please tell us how does this disapearing money help our economy? not forgeting the family allowance that they claim for children who don't even live here or if in fact they even exist at all”
