Samurai centre set for launch
SAMURAI Martial Arts and Fitness Centre will officially open its doors at the weekend.
Based on Freeman Street, the complex will be unveiled by North East Lincolnshire Mayor Mike Burton on Saturday morning, with events continuing on Sunday.
SMFAC will offer enthusiasts a range of fitness activities and martial arts disciplines – the dojo also boasts expert sports therapy.
And as only one of five UK centres to provide Kaze Arashi Ryu training, head coach Andy Abernethie says the new complex will provide a 'unique' experience.

The 44-year-old Grimsby man told the Telegraph: "I have been doing martial arts for over 30 years and have always wanted my own centre, even when I was younger.
"It is primarily going to be a martial arts and fitness centre. But, we also offer sports therapy for people with all injuries to come and rehabilitate.
"There will be three of us running the therapy section. I met Jill Smaller and Liz Scott when I was instructing at the Grimsby Institute.
"There is quite a lot going on here and the system that we have is unique. There will be several demonstrations on the two days for people to see what we do.
"It really is a superb place and a real positive for Freeman Street. Hopefully lots of people will come down to the opening weekend so they can check it out for themselves."
Having previously worked for local company Novartis, Abernethie retired from his position in 2004 to pursue a full-time career in martial arts instruction.
Teaching at 15 schools across the region, in addition to his role at the Grimsby Institute, the ex-Wintringham pupil has now been able to expand his enterprise.
Alongside his two assistants, James Phillips (junior) and Joe Cottingham (senior), Abernethie will help teach karate, kung fu and ju-jitsu.
The centre will also offer zumba and pilates sessions. For more details, contact Abernethie on 07866909703.
