ACCORDING to the experts, using your mobile phone whilst driving is as bad as being under the influence.

I often wonder how that compares to the sat-navs people use as far as being a distraction.

After all, looking to make sure you are not going to hit anything and looking at the sat-nav at the same time and listening to it must be just as bad, especially when you are in an area that you have not been in before.

Between the mobile phone and the sat-nav they seem to be in a similar situation as far as a distraction is concerned.

And, in that comparison, maybe those using a mobile phone should not suffer such severe penalties as they are now.

The Telegraph says

Any driver who becomes distracted, whatever the cause, puts themselves and others at risk. We should all have enough common sense to realise when our driving is being affected by something.

“If listening to a sat-nav is distracting then so too is a radio-maybe we shouldn't have those in cars either? Come to that so is talking to a passenger.”
