Scanner helps combat mobile phone thefts in Scunthorpe
MOBILE phone theft is another crime that Inspector Jayne Broughton says is "rearing its head".
With people signing up to the immobilise scheme – which records the unique serial number of their phone – officer's are now able to take a scanner in to pubs and clubs in a bid to trace stolen phones.
The scanner – used as part of Operation Apollo – helps to search out the stolen phones as identified through the serial numbers.
Inspector Broughton said: "It is easy to dip in to someone's handbag or pocket and steal a phone.

"With this system, we can take the scanners into the pubs and start searching for mobile phones.
"If people are aware that we are going to be doing more of this, then we can prevent the number of thefts and people in custody."
