'Sewer damage to blame for 4ft hole which Scunthorpe man fell in'
INVESTIGATIONS into the ground where a Scunthorpe man fell into a four foot hole have revealed sewer damage was to blame.
Ronald Matthews, 64, of Portman Road, was injured after falling into the hole while washing his car.
A spokesperson for Severn Trent Water said: "We were sorry to read about Mr Matthews' fall last week.
"The hole on Portman Road in Scunthorpe was reported to us by North Lincolnshire Council on Thursday, February 14.

"We went out to investigate and found that there was damage to the sewer as a result of ground movement, so we carried out emergency repairs last week.
"We would always encourage our customers to report something like this to us so that we can take action and carry out any necessary emergency work."
