Shock as body of elderly man is found in Bradley Woods
THE body of an elderly man has been found in Bradley Woods, police have confirmed.
A shocked walker stumbled across the man, believed to be in his 70s, in the popular Grimsby woodlands yesterday afternoon.
The exact circumstances of how the man died is not known, but it is thought he had been there for several hours.
Sergeant Lee Dixon investigating confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious.
He said: "We can confirm the body of an adult male has been found.
"He was found by a member of the public and while we are obviously keen to establish the circumstances, the information we have at the moment suggests it is not suspicious."
The walker called the police at around 1.25pm, who contacted East Midlands Ambulance and paramedics transferred the body to Grimsby's Diana, Princess Of Wales Hospital.
The exact location of where the body was found has not been confirmed, but the emergency services operation was centred a short distance from the Bradley Road entrance and the woods were closed to the public while the body was recovered.
Divisional operations manager for East Lincolnshire, Steve Pratten, said: "The call came to us from the police control room from a member of the public walking in the woods.
"We sent a first response car out and a double crew ambulance transported the man to the hospital.
"We think the man had been there sometime, we don't know how long for sure but we are talking several hours at least."
At the time of going to press, police were working to identify the man's next of kin and will not be releasing a name until the family have all been informed.
