TRAFFIC is at an almost total standstill on the main routes out of Grimsby.

A lorry on the flyover is unable to move, completely blocking one lane and a car blocking the other, causing a huge build-up travelling westbound.

There are also reports of traffic on Bargate and Peaks Parkway moving extremely slowly.

“Cadfael there was no bus crash on deansgate bridge that I could see of it took me 2 hours to travel from Cleethorpes High Street to the hospital where I abandoned my journey and ended up walking back to town,.”

“I know the roads weren't gritted because I was on the roads and there was no grit! You seem to imply that the flyover opposite the Telegraph was gritted, but that it didn't work for some reason? How can grit not work? It's a chemical reaction and the temperature was only about -1. If grit often doesn't work, why aren't cars spinning their wheels and lorries getting stuck on the flyover every year? The fact is, the council did not grit the roads early enough and often enough. Even main routes were nearly impassable and accidents caused by negligent lack of gritting made matters even worse. A total shambles!”

“onlyapound - how do you know that those roads weren't gritted? Our office is very close to the flyover and we had a gritter past around lunchtime, so find it very difficult to find that our road was gritted and no others were. Or are you just one of these fools that expect gritting to be a miraculous event that works 100% every time?”

“It took me 1 1/2 hours to travel from Cleethorpes to Grimsby this evening! Not one road was gritted. The Telegraph video shows cars spinning their wheels trying to get over the flyover, obviously that wasn't gritted. Nor was Weelsby Road, Ladysmith Road or Welholme Road. This useless council had about three day's notice and still failed!”
