It is all 'Smillies' at the district council!
WHEN it comes to working for a local council, West Lindsey District Council (WLDC) is tops – and that's official.
The authority fought off competition from more than 300 councils to be named the UK's best for Employment and Equality Initiatives at the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) Service Awards 2012.
The award was made in recognition of the way the council managed roles within the authority to minimise cuts to service delivery, avoid compulsory redundancies and for its strong corporate one- team ethos.
Receiving the accolade from TV presenter Carol Smillie, at a glittering ceremony in Glasgow, council leader and Market Rasen ward councillor Burt Keimach said: "For the council to come first in the UK, from more than 300 councils overall to scoop the Best Employment and Equality Initiative Award, is fantastic.

"To me this proves that the way we treat people who work for us is the right and proper way. I would like to give a salute to everyone involved."
And that was not the only title the council has brought home recently.
WLDC also swept up five stars in the 2012 Clean Britain Awards after a vigorous and anonymous inspection in August.
The department was assessed on 13 key criteria, including general litter, chewing gum and smoking-related litter, fly-tipping, graffiti and the provision and condition of litter bins.
Not only did the council receive a near-perfect score, it was also presented with a silver award in the small population category of the Clean Britain Awards.
WLDC was one of nine local authorities to receive awards at a presentation ceremony in the NEC in Birmingham, hosted by BAFTA award winning comedian and impressionist Alistair McGowan and sponsored by Kier.
Operational services manager Glyn Pilkington said: "I am extremely proud of the street cleansing team and the high standards they achieve on a daily basis and this award is recognition of that achievement.
