LOCAL schoolchildren hit all the right notes on the third day of the Infant Schools Singing Festival 2010

As reported, about 1,000 children from various schools around North East Lincolnshire will take to the stage at Grimsby's Central Hall this week as part of the four-day event, which aims to highlight the threat posed to the planet by global warming.

Wednesday's line-up included children from Western Primary School, Thrunscoe Primary School, Weelsby Primary School, Grange Primary School, Willows Primary School and Lisle Marsden Primary School.

Speaking after the show, Mayor of North East Lincolnshire Councillor John Colebrook, who was attending his second performance of the week, said: "It was another excellent performance and I think it has been getting better as the week goes on.

"The pupils I've seen have been a credit to their school.

"The children really seem to enjoy it and, after speaking to one of the teachers, they are more willing to learn as a result of their work in the singing festival.

"It is fantastic."

Bishop of Grimsby, The Right Reverend David Rossdale, also enjoyed the lively show.

He said: "I think that we are very fortunate as a community to have so many talented performers and so many schools that encourage their pupils to express themselves through song.

"The message of the show is very powerful and one I think everyone should take heed of."

Sue Grewcock, a teacher at Willows Primary School, said: "The children have put in an awful lot of work in preparation for the performance.

"They have all really enjoyed taking part in the show today."

Willows Primary pupil Ria Louise Stafford, seven, said: "I really enjoyed being up on the stage and singing."

The remaining schools taking part in the festival and featuring in Friday's paper are Fairfield Primary School, Signhills Infant School, Eastfield Primary School, St Martin's Preparatory School, and Waltham Leas Primary School.

Each performance starts at 2.15pm. Entry is £1.
