With retail experts predicting that the Great British high street could soon become a thing of the past unless something is done to preserve it, the message from local business leaders is clear – “use us or lose us.”

That is why the Grimsby Telegraph has teamed up with the Lincolnshire branch of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) to launch Your Life: Buy Local – a campaign to show you how making small changes to your spending habits can help save the high street and put more money back into the local economy.

As part of the campaign, we have launched the Buy Local loyalty card, which local shops and traders, like the one featured here, are signing up to in order to give you discounts until the end of the year, to encourage people to shop locally.

AFTER celebrating 65 years in business, one Grimsby store is thanking its loyal customers for "buying local" over the years by offering a fantastic money-off deal.

As part of the Grimsby Telegraph's Buy Local campaign, Ramsdens department store, in Cleethorpe Road, is offering 10 per cent off the price of all stocked carpets, Myers Beds and lighting, to all loyalty cardholders.

As reported, the Grimsby Telegraph's Buy Local campaign is designed to support local firms by encouraging you to think about where you spend your money.

To encourage more people to shop locally, the Telegraph teamed up with businesses from across the area to launch the Buy Local loyalty card – and Ramsdens is one of the dozens of firms to have signed up from the beginning of the campaign.

Founded by Ron Ramsden in 1946, the family-run business currently operates Ramsdens department store and Ramsdens Home Interiors.

Dave Christy, managing director at the firm, said that the offer was a way of "giving something back" to their loyal customers.

"The Buy Local campaign is proving to be very successful for us so far with lots of customers receiving great deals.

"Helping the public to save money can only be a good thing, that is why we are keen to give something back to the customers who support us."

Dave added that he was fully supportive of the campaign as he believes that local businesses need the support of the local community.

For him, local businesses offer a far better level of service than national chains.

"With independent businesses like Ramsdens, customers are looked on as a person and not a number," he said.

"You are also given years of professional advice on the items that you are buying."
