MILLFIELDS put distance between themselves and fellow title-chasers ME Sports Coaching with a 12-6 win in the premier division of the Grimsby & District Three-Man Squash League.

All three match-ups went the distance, with Millfields edging each one 3-2.

Steve McIntosh started the ball rolling for the leaders against Dennis Savill.

McIntosh began well, taking the ball early and making Savill work hard for every point.

The Millfields man eventually took the first game 15-11.

The second was similar, with McIntosh playing an excellent line and length to earn a 15-10 victory.

In the third, Savill knew he had to dig deep to stay in the match and he did just that, taking it 15-9.

The fourth game was very close with Savill retrieving excellently, edging it 15-13.

It meant it was all down to the fifth and final game, and it was McIntosh who held his nerve to take it 15-9 and win an entertaining match 3-2.

Ian Hallam, of ME Sports, was up against the experienced Martin Mumby in the second match.

Mumby started brightly and took the first game 15-13, only for Hallam to hit straight back taking the second 15-12.

Mumby stuck to his task in the third playing very tight squash and working Hallam around the court, edging it 15-10.

However Hallam, who is never one to give up, once again replied immediately to send it into a deciding game, with a 15-12 win after both players had played some excellent squash.

In the last, Mumby regained his focus to win the match, taking it 15-10, to record a hard-fought 3-2 victory.

With the overall match lost for MS Sports, Sam Haycock went on court against Harry Falconer with points still to play for.

Haycock was quick out of the blocks playing some great cross-court shots that caught Falconer out, and Haycock took the first game 15-12.

Falconer hit straight back playing some lovely volley drop shots on his way to taking the second game 15-10.

Falconer continued to dominate the tee, pushing Haycock around the court, and took the third 15-8.

But Haycock again dug deep to take the fourth 15-8.

Eventually, it was Falconer who recorded a fantastic win – he took the fifth game 15-9 and with it the match 3-2.
