Stay away from hospital, diarrhoea victims are told
A DOCTOR is urging people with diarrhoea and vomiting to stay away from hospital following the closure of a ward and bay to stop the illness spreading.
The acute medical unit at Grimsby's Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital is closed to new admissions and transfers and a single bay on ward C5 is also shut.
Dr Peter Cowling, a hospital microbiologist, said: "Many people don't realise how easily diarrhoea and vomiting is spread. The illness can affect people of all ages. There is no specific treatment, apart from letting the illness run its course and so, in the vast majority of cases, there is no additional benefit to visiting a GP or A&E. If you are visiting people who are vulnerable to infection and you have symptoms, the best thing you can do is to delay visits until you are recovered and symptom free for 48 hours."
