Yes, this comes from the same people who in some cases were either largely instrumental in creating the financial mess we are in or who are now fleecing each and every one of us as they try to find ways of getting out of the mire.

Talk about rubbing our noses in it. Is there any wonder why the standing of those who we elect to represent us continues to plunge faster into the abyss?

“I find the fact that MP's want a pay rise at any level absolutly disgraceful, they already earn way above the minimum wage.
I would suggest that MPs and in particular those serving as ministers should receive the amount they are entitled to if claiming benifits, no expenses no housing allowances no "company" cars, just the amount they have judged is enough for others to live in.
Any "extra" should be performance related and agreed by a community panel, made up from a real cross section of society, including teenagers, older people, the disabled and unemployed as well as single people and families who are working.
Even allowing for setting up costs the money saved would go along way to helping sort out the financial mess the countries in”

“Our M.P.s certainly deserve the rise and I'll be the first to take it.”

“Pay them based on performance and results. But I suppose if that was the case they'd owe us, joe public money......”

“M.P.s are elected to represent their constituents, and legislate on their behalf. How can they do so when they are so divorced from the realities of the real world? They should be paid the average salary in this coutry, curently just over £28,000.
They already receive generous second home allowances(even without fiddling),free travel and other perks of the job unimaginable to most folks. The demands of the job are hardly the most onerous as occupations go.Short weekly hours, the occasional committee to attend, a few fact finding trips abroad, then another long Parliamentary recess(hols to you and me)
Over 50% of M.P.s have second paid jobs-which shows how hard pressed they are time wise.
I advocate a 32% pay cut with immediate effect”

“No one made them to become an mp they chose to . If they cannot live on there pay find an other job like we all have to but they won't they know they are on to a good thing and no they should not get a final salary pension lose it like the rest of us”

“What happened to "We're all in it together"? M.P.'s should do as they say, and give themselves the same pay increase as other public sector workers.

If we don't have money to give to the chronically sick and disabled a 2% increase, where is the money coming from to give the M.P.'s their 32% increase?

I'm not saying that our M.P.'s are not worth a bigger increase, but they have to bite the bullet like the rest of us.”
