A GRIMSBY super-slimmer is hoping her success in battling the bulge will inspire others to follow in her footsteps – after losing a whopping eight-and-a-half stone in just four months.

Fighting fit Nicole Wilson, 25, of Bradley Cross Roads, managed to drop five dress sizes from a 24 to a 12 after joining weight loss group, Lighter Life, which meets every week at the Alexandra Dock Business Centre.

The yummy mummy said: "I feel like a new woman.

"The group has completely changed my life – I just feel so much more confident.

"I used to eat all sorts of fast food, crisps and chocolate and I struggled to keep up with my two young children.

"I've always been big and I have been dieting since the age of 15, but nothing ever seemed to work for me until now."

To find out more about her inspiring story, see today's Grimsby Telegraph.

“Those of you that have made negative comments on Nicole's amazing weight loss obviousley have no real understanding of the Lighter life regime!
LL isn't just about losing weight, it is about changing your thinking & mind set in relation to food - for life.
We can all go on diets, to then regain the weight AND more! We may slip back into old habits when we attain our goal becoming complacent.
This is where Lighter Life is different! The weekly counselling is the key to the success of keeping the weight off. When the weight loss is achieved reintroducing food gradually and recognising those foods that DO make you want to 'have more' causing you to over eat is again part of the programme. It is a positive way of reducing the obesity problems that many of us have faced.
Yes you do need regular check ups with a GP or nurse, but surely this is a good thing? At least you can see your blood pressure reducing over a period of time!
Yes you may have guessed I have successfully completed lighter life programme - in fact with Nicole.
I have completed both the foundation & management programme.
The support from our counsellor Sandra Bojen-Taylor has been amazing! She has been such an inspiration to us with her positive attitude and professionalism.
I am from a medical back ground and i can not praise lighter life enough.. it has inspired me through my weight loss to love life again! My confidence has soared & i have completed many 10K runs all over the country raising money for charity... something i could certainly not have done a year ago! Hillary Jones, (the Dr on what was GMTV) is featured in dvds about lighter life in recommending VLCD in a way to beat obesity.
As for feeling ill on it well.. i never felt better! Yes the first few days on any diet may give you headaches and make you feel generally unwell (& i have tried many), but i felt really well on this through out!
Altogether the programme has taken me 26 weeks & i feel the happiest i have about myself for a long time!
So please give Nicole credit for what she has achieved. She is an amazing, beautiful person who has been such an inspiration to many. I know from her positive attitude, fueled from the support of such a great counsellor that she has no intention of putting the weight back on... she is loving her new life, like me too much!
All I can say to Nicole is GO GIRL! ignore the negative comments that some have posted- they have no idea how far you have come and how Lighter Life has changed our lives!”

“Well done and I'm sure you feel much much better but I must agree with what's been said.

I lost 6 stone five years ago on a similar food deprivation and ultra low calorie diet.

These diets are dangerous and you are bound to put weight back on, simply because say you get to an idea weight of 10 stone and you continue to consume only 400 calories a day, you would die eventually as you need many more than that just for normal body function. So there comes a point where you have to increase your calorie intake and then you gain weight and gradually you end up even bigger than when you started.

Sensible eating, portion control, everything in moderation and exercise is the only real way to do it and keep the weight off. Quick fixes are good on the outside but inside they don't really do the business, you'd be better off having a gastric band than doing this kind of diet.

Obesity is a problem and so is the often ignored and misunderstood eating disorder that is over eating. You need to find out why you over eat and tackle that first, then lose weight healthily and sensibly. That's the way it finally worked for me, I lost 12 stone and not only that I got rid of some emotional hangups which had led me to be a over eater in the first place. Things I'd never even realised had affected me in that way. It's stayed off for 2 years too, I just don't over eat any more and I enjoy my food because I'm hungry not because I'm seeking comfort.

We have a good eating disorder service in Grimsby now attached to the mental health services - over eating IS an eating disorder like any other eg Bulimia, Anorexia.”

“Congrats on the weight loss but loosing that amount of weight in such a short space of time is dangerous!
A healthy weight loss is between 1-2lb a week. Any thing more then that is muscle loss.
I can guarantee she has not learnt to control her eating. I bet she has cut everything out and has not been taught how everything in moderation is ok. So now she is at her ideal weight she will start introducing these foods again and pile the weight back on.
I hope this is not the case but as I have said before loosing this amount of weight in such a short space of time is dangerous and is easy to put back on!”

“Well done to the young lady but I'm sorry, Lighter Life is dangerous. You need a doctor to sign a form before you start it as it is so daft. You consume around 400 - 500 calories a day in the way of food packs, like soups and shakes, so that your body goes into ketosis. You gradually add more calories. But I maintain that it is dangerous to lose so much weight in such a short space of time... and It's £70 a week! What average person can afford that? I was actually going to do Lighter Life until I read reviews of how AWFUL people feel on it. Headaches/no energy, etc. Not for me! But hats off to anyone who can stick at it and not feel terrible.”

“Can't believe how irresponsible the Telegraph has been promoting such a drastic weight loss program. Surely more thought should be given to these stories. A healthy weight loss is 1-2lbs a week.
Such a rapid weight loss is dangerous, shame on you Telegraph!”

“No matter what anybody says a "Well Done" is deserved.

I have lost weight fast myself and then have it slowly creep back on. You just have to keep an eye on it and be realistic with what you eat and make corrections early before it piles back on.

As concerns metabolisms, etc then I do agree that some people seem to be able to eat anything and everything yet never gain weight. Lucky? Maybe, in hard times if food was scarce then maybe they would suffer first. The rest of us who look at chocolate and gain weight have to follow the obvious rule and keep consumed calories less or equal to those that we expend within the same time frame.

Losing weight can be difficult and keeping the weight off even harder. How fast you lose the weight will vary from person to person but too fast is likely to be bad for your health and you are more likely to have moments when old habits kick in and you binge.”

    “Ruth are you insane?

Did you even read my post?

I have a weight problem and have repeatedly gone between 12 stone and 24 stone (currently 19 stone).

My post supports Nicole's efforts, defending her against your and Ed's negative comments.

You obviously know nothing - jog on!”
