GRIMSBY Town clinched a first home win of the season, coming from behind to beast Histon 2-1 at Blundell Park thanks to a brace from star striker Alan Connell.

But the big story of the day was a return to Grimsby Town action for goalkeeping coach Steve Croudson - eight years after his last Town outing.

With first-team keepers Kenny Arthur (hamstring) and Nick Colgan (elbow) both injured, the 29-year-old stepped in as emergency stopper.

And he put in a fine display to help his side clinch the win.

Town went behind, however, on 23 minutes when Lee Wootton side-footed minnows Histon into the lead.

The Mariners were level before half-time when Connell bagged his first from the penalty spot after Lewis Gobern had been brought down.

Full debutant Charles Ademeno left the field soon after with a recurrence of his hamstring injury.

In the second-half, Croudson pulled off a string of fine saves to keep the scores level.

And then, with five minutes to go, Connell netted the winner with a sweet volley from Lee Peacock's cross.

Town: Croudson, Hudson, Kempson, Gobern, Cummins, Ademeno, Peacock, Samuels, Watt, Connell, Wood. Subs: Garner, Corner, Eagle, Stockdale, Peet.

“we are playing badly/terribly but are 3 points off the top.

everybody knows they are capable of playing far better, its just a matter of confidence and getting used to being the big scalp.”

“Barry, gy. With all respect with your opinions you are talking a load of tosh. We have been c..p for 5 of the 6 games York being the exception. As i keep posting Woods has not got a clue. He is tactically naive, A good example is playing Connell out of position. He is a centre forward not a wide player, and Woods is not able to motivate the players, Today we were lucky it was never a penalty, I bet Luton are rubbing thier hands and cannot wait to play us on Saturday. We will be easy pickings with performances like that. UTM without Woods.”

“Not a good performance, but 3 points are what matter. It was a patched up team today so am v pleased with a win. Its really not easy to play against teams who dont let you play football, i think we will fair better against the likes of luton who let us play. Still need a center mid who can control the game, but woods knows this, so im sure he'll sort this. UTM”
