THREE goals in seven second-half minutes consigned Grimsby Town to a heavy 4-1 defeat at Rushden & Diamonds this afternoon.

The hosts took the lead through Justin Miller in the 40th minute of the Blue Square Bet Premier clash at Nene Park, but Mark Hudson levelled things up just two minutes into the second period.

However, poor defending allowed Ryan Charles to put the home side back ahead in the 58th minute before Rene Howe repeated the trick shortly after.

A fourth goal - for Max Porter in the 65th minute - made the points safe for Rushden and left the Mariners' 541 supporters with a long journey back to North East Lincolnshire.
