VOTE: PCs and PCSOs will be available at weekly briefing sessions in Freshney Place
POLICE are to trial a scheme that will give members of the public reassurance, advice and answers in weekly briefings in Freshney Place.
Starting this week, every Friday from 2pm-3pm, a town centre area PC or PCSO will be on hand to answer your queries at the customer service desk in the Grimsby shopping centre.

ON TRIAL: PCSOs and neighbourhood police teams will be on hand at Freshney Place service desk to answer any questions and give advice to shoppers. Pictured are PCSO Jane Banks and right, PC Ryan Stratton. Picture: Abby Ruston
The trial scheme will run until the last Friday in October, and if it is deemed a success, it could be rolled out in other areas.
The drop-in style facility will allow members of the public to seek police guidance on any given topic as they go about their daily business.
To find out more about the scheme – and why local officers think it will be such a success – see today's Grimsby Telegraph.

“the queen, the palace..."I think a lot of you cynics will be sorry if the PCSO's weren't around! Then it will be the same old story "why are Police officers are being tied up with minor arguments instead of dealing with real crime".......
Absolutely spot on!
Typical Grimsby negativity, pulling down anything and everything just to have a moan. Yet in reality, I bet these whingers haven't got the slightest idea about the realities of policing (as I haven't), but still spout offensive nonsense on a public forum.
There aren't enough police to go around as it is (which is only going to get worse once the government cuts bite), at least the pcso's are getting off their backsides and earning an honest crust instead of just claiming benefits, whilst at the same time allowing police officers to concentrate on the more serious issues.
I have no connection with the police, but from the dealings I have had with them in my line of work, I can see that they are swamped with restrictions and red tape, and do their best in extremely difficult circumstances. Rather than just police bashing, I at least try to look at the situation with some common sense and intelligence!
As 'the queen' rightly says, if pcso's are disbanded, the same old band of whingers will be on here moaning that they never see a uniform on the streets, and that the police are always tied up sorting out minor stuff...still, why let common sense or facts get in the way of a good old moan eh?”

“I think that the majority of people haven't got a clue about the amount of work PCSO's do, and I greatly appreciate the help and support I have received from them and the police force in general! I think a lot of you cynics will be sorry if the PCSO's weren't around! Then it will be the same old story "why are Police officers are being tied up with minor arguments instead of dealing with real crime" blah blah blah.
Some people do not wish to bother the police as they feel the matter isn't important in the bigger scheme of things, so in my opinion (which no doubt you won't agree with) I think this is a good thing for those people to talk about their issues.
And why is weight an issue? Just because someone is of a bigger build does that mean they are unable to use their brain? I applaud you for going to every single police station and meeting every single officer in the force, which covers Hull, Scunthorpe, Beverley etc etc for you to make the bold assumption that the "vast majority" are fat!!
I would like to see you all try and do the job, I reckon you would struggle to deal with half the jobs the PC's and PCSO's do!!”

This isn't meant to hurt .. but I think the public *would* have more faith in them as a 'force' if the vast majority of them weren't so fat!”

“PCSO's are an absolute , total and utter waste of time , resources and a drain on finances which would be far better utilized in the health service , to mention just one struggling area. What actual proof is there that they are having any effect whatsoever on our extremely high rate of crime? They have no powers to "Stop and search" individuals that may be suspected of serious assaults , have no power to detain the same and are seen by the criminal fraternity as joke. I have seen , as I feel sure others have , so called "Chav" bullies and known trouble makers openly taking the Mickey out of these powerless officers. I have seen children as young as 6 or 7swearing and laughing at them. The truth is , it is my belief that the general public has absolutely no faith in the police in recent times let alone these powerless , overpaid lookalikes. Yours , fed up with crime , Rob Waters”

“Looking at the leaflet held by PC Stratton, 'Bogus Callers' should be dealt with in a proactive manner. Any caller in a neighbourhood wishing to sell or advertise their wares or services should have to make prior application, providing their details, to the council for permission to do so and be issued with a badge for a particular time slot. A question could then be raised about anyone not complying in a neighbourhood, by a swift telephone call to the council who could then ask the police to investigate if they hadn't sanctioned their activities. Surely positive action by the clued up, would then offer cover to the vulnerable, or is that approach too simple? It would certainly be more effective than having two members of Humberside Police standing in Freshney Place, because as Josephine says - Why?”
