FURIOUS Waltham residents are demanding licensing chiefs call time on rowdy behaviour at quaint tea rooms after complaining about loud music keeping them awake at night.

Neighbours living in Grove Lane have accused bar staff at a formerly sedate bowling green pavilion of turning a blind eye to noisy boozers who often hang around outside the premises until the early hours.

Clear-the-air talks between the manager of the Waltham Tea Gardens and angry homeowners took place yesterday afternoon and were mediated by Humberside Police licensing officer Ken Stone. But many at the meeting remain unconvinced that proposed changes will have any effect.

It was decided that a device designed to limit decibel levels inside the venue will be installed to cut down on the noise caused by live music, while drinkers at the members-only club will be told to vacate the bar by 11pm during the week.

Find out what everyone involved had to say about it in today's Grimsby Telegraph.

“It is a sad indictment of today¿s society that no matter that you live in a Street, Avenue or even a Grove that you no longer know the names of the people who live around you. Against this backdrop of lives being lived in a protective and sheltered existence, there is a place where you know the people around you, the Businessmen of the community, builders, firemen, electricians and others from all walks of life. How the quality of life can be improved by sharing with others, Christenings, Weddings and Funerals plus the inevitable stumbles and falls one might have in life¿s journey.

The Waltham Teagardens is one such place a hub of the community and for those that feel excluded by that then I feel sorry because they are not sharing or giving to the place where they live.

Noise can be a problem but then cant it always when a family gathers as they do to mark special days. I know the landlord is doing all he can to keep that noise to a minimum and will continue to do so.

With regards to parking living on Danesfield Avenue myself we have the same signs posted along the road promising £500.00 fines for those that park on verges and yet with no fines being issued the problem never abates. I am sure there are others around the village that feel the same. The problems which may be caused by people parking to attend the Tea Gardens pail into insignificance by the problems caused around both Waltham Leas and Toll Bar Business College. Perhaps the council would consider tackling this far larger issue first before concerning themselves with one or two miss parked cars on Skinners Lane before there is a fatal accident caused from it.

From the 1860¿s the Waltham Teagardens has been synonymous with the village life of Waltham and the community to which it owes its existence. Please take a moment or two to come out from behind those curtains have a real look at the place and you will find that in this respect nothing has changed.”

“Waltham Resident,I've not lived long in the village, this I freely admit (8 years if you must know), but the tea Gardens was one of the first places I went to when I went out to find a place to have a drink. I have to say I have never been so welcomed by such a great many people. The clientele are superb, the staff and management the same. In all the times I have visited, not once has there been rowdy behaviour, ok there may have been a raid in the 1980s for out of hours drinking, but good grief that is 20 years ago!! I personnally love the Tea's and would help fight any cause that meant the closure of this fine establishment, from what appear to be a few miserable, selfish snobs, who only give a damn about their house prices (Ring any bells, know anyone like that?). Remember you are living in 2010, not 1910 people change life moves on, and attitudes change, the Tea Gardens has to move with the times, it has to be a viable commercial success, if it doesn't it woulld die anyway. What would you say if the manager decided to close the club down and re-develop the land into a space for 10 houses, and then sold them all to people with 2.4 children and they were all noisy, and had parties and barbeques every weekend? I think you would have a damn sight more to moan about then. As for cheap beer, I wish that were true, but the prices are the same as the Tilted Barrel and the Kings Head, doesn't matter what is important about the Tea Gardens is the social aspects, and the fact that by and large the place is still a quite well respected establishment to enjoy good company and enjoy a drink after a hard days work. Really speaking if you speaking if you don't like it move, that is what I did in the last place I lived, and there was a really rowdy working mans club next door to me - fights every night, people getting glassed - one guy even got shot, the noise was atrocious too, but I never moaned like a fairy I just moved, and to be honest you should follow suit!”

“It is no secret that the pub and club trade has greatly suffered in recent years due to laws imposed by the government, so with this in mind why shouldn't the landlord try his best to encourage trade and try and make a decent living? This is achieved, not by 'cheap' prices, but by putting on events at weekends which make a change and give the members something different to enjoy.

And as for the attracting the 'wrong kind of clientel', well what does that even mean? Firstly, who is anybody to judge anbody else on class, where they're from or what they do for a living? And secondly if this is refferring to the younger generation, it is only natural that as time goes on, younger people will inevitably join the club. There are probably less than 20 under 25s who drink regularly in the club, all of which are full memebers so they have every right to do so, and have never caused any kind of trouble or unrest.

The Tea Gardens is also the sponsor of 4 football teams, all of whom drink in the club after training or matches, is this the 'wrong crowd' you speak of? Because i have never known of any trouble arising because of those either, a bit of banter (which can only be expected) is about as far as it goes.

From my experiences, there is a great sense of camararadie within the club, even with such a wide range of ages, which gives the club a good atmosphere and a great sense of home from home. Their are great friendships between people of all different ages and a great intergration of the generations, all willing to get involved with the club and partake in the numerous charity events the club holds, personally, i think thinks have be blown out of proportion on a ridiculous scale, the Tea Gardens is, after all a place to have a drink and a laugh.”

    “Haha love Warren's comment.

    As for Occasional Visitor:

"Waltham is no better than anywhere else in the North East Lincolnshire Area, in fact waltham has more incidents of teenage drug/alcohol use and underage sex than most areas."

Where did you pick that information up from then?”
