This is Grimsby

I AM just one of many people in the Grimsby area who is living with cancer.

I have the love and support of my family and friends and the dedicated care of the staff of the Macmillan Suite, Ward A1, and the oncology department of the hospital.

I am deeply touched by the wonderful people who have raised money to help people like me. So to all those who took part in the Race For Life, the ones who have cycled hundreds of miles, the brave souls who shave their heads in sympathy with us, the organisers of fun days and coffee mornings and everyone who has given time and effort to help us – I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart.

God bless all of you for your kindness.

Betty Raven,

address supplied.

The Telegraph says

A poignant letter that reminds us how the "lucky ones" will always do what they can to help others.

“Once again your comments are trash and nothing to do with the delicate subject above.
I am sure everyone concerned will agree with me.
I am also sure that the people affected by this illness would appreciate your donations more than your comments.
Please have a little consideration for Betty Raven.”

“This is where humanity is most prevailent and where it ia also sincerely appreciated by the sufferers, theis familly and friends.
However the finacial support should come from the gov and should NOT depend on the public for fund raising.
Instead of the Brit Gov giving up to £800billion away of our tax money EVERY year to foreign countries.
The foreign "AID" should be supported by voluntary donations from the public. The gov overseas "AID" should be diverted to the charities at home such as cancer research, thereby reversing the present "AID - DONATIONS" system.
Charity begins at home especially in these times of economic downturn.”
