OPPORTUNIST thief Sam Hann snatched a purse containing £120 cash from behind the bar at a club, Grimsby magistrates heard.

Hann, 21, of Brighowgate, Grimsby, admitted burglary, involving stealing a purse, on November 15 and stealing five bottles of wine, valued at £25, from Asda on October 16.

John Owston, prosecuting, said Hann stayed behind after a lock-in at the Jack O Clubs social club, in Cleethorpe, Road, Grimsby, at approximately 1am.

Member of staff Jacqueline Jackson realised her purse was missing from behind the bar area.

Hann later took police to where he had dumped the purse in a field.

There had originally been £120 in it, £40 was recovered but £80 was still missing.

Hann told the court he had been struggling with an alcohol problem.

“I just want to be a completely different person,” he said. “I have realised what an idiot I have been.”

Unemployed Hann was fined £40 and was ordered to pay £80 compensation, £85 costs and a Government-imposed £20 victims’ surcharge.
