This is what future holds
MORE people own a mobile phone than a toothbrush.
So while the phrase "don't forget your toothbrush" isn't appropriate here, you can now log onto the Grimsby Telegraph's website from your mobile and view a newly launched format.
The popular www.thisisgrimsby.co.uk has created a HTML5-friendly mobile version, helping you access all the latest news in North East Lincolnshire at your fingertips.
According to research carried out this year by Ofcom, 92 per cent of adults personally own or use a mobile.
And, on average, each one of those sends 200 texts or picture messages a month.
There's no doubt about it, we are a mobile nation.
UK smartphone ownership is the highest in the world at 52 per cent of all phone devices and forecast to be 60 per cent in January.
Globally, there are now 4.2 billion mobiles – and statistics suggest more people would rather own a mobile than clean their teeth.
Lee Williams, executive digital director at the Telegraph's parent company Northcliffe, said 31 per cent of all visitors to thisis sites such as Grimsby in November did so from a mobile handset, including four million unique visitors.
"I am forecasting 40 per cent of all visits by January and 50 per cent of all visits by July will be via mobile handsets," he said. "The new format will help improve the speed and ease with which visitors can navigate the site."
The thisis network is transferring to Local World as part of Northcliffe Media's merger with the Iliffe Newspaper Group.
Telegraph Editor Michelle Lalor said: "The Grimsby Telegraph remains at the heart of all things local, and has done so since its launch way back in 1897. We reflect views, report news and campaign for improvement and change – and just as our readers change, we do too. The Grimsby Telegraph's website – www.thisisgrimsby.co.uk – continues to go from strength to strength.
"Not only does it report the latest issues and break news 24 hours a day, much more is just a click – or a button – away.
"Videos, photo galleries, what's on, eating out reviews... the list is endless. Why not visit right now?"
