A TEENAGE musician is preparing to hit the high notes for a massively successful appeal for bowel cancer patients.

As reported, the Bottoms Up Appeal was launched in January to raise £150,000 for a specialist beds unit for patients recovering from surgery at Grimsby's Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital.

Hundreds of fundraisers throughout North East Lincolnshire donated to the cause – and last week, the appeal reached its target.

Now, the Bottoms Up fund is continuing – for the ongoing care of patients – and 16-year-old Thomas Drew is hosting a night of classical music to contribute.

Thomas, a violinist and pianist from Cleethorpes, pledged to hold the concert before the appeal target was reached and is looking forward to welcoming music lovers to St James' Church, Grimsby, on Thursday, October 22.

His grandfather, Reg, 78, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in December.

Thomas said: "He had his operation in Grimsby and that is where the Bottoms Up campaign came to our attention.

"I have been asked to do concerts before, such as at the Drill Hall in Leeds, but this is something I set out to do myself.

"It's for a very good cause and I hope people will get on board to support it."

The concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £5 with admission free for under-12s. They can be purchased from the Caxton Theatre box office in Grimsby Central Library on (01472) 346251. Any businesses willing to donate raffle prizes, call (01472) 600707.
