THE firm which owns Thorpe Park Caravan Park has pledged to fight plans for eight 115 metre high turbines “tooth and nail”.

Bourne Leisure has joined the growing campaign against the Newton Marsh windfarm near the Tetney sewerage works describing it as “unfair, unnecessary and unwarranted”.

The farm, which was unveiled to the public by developers ASC yesterday at Humberston Country Club, is just 950 metres away from the Cleethorpes holiday park and conservation area, the Humberston Fitties.

Thorpe Park employs 300 people and generates an estimated £15 million a year for the local economy and Bourne Leisure believes the farm could impact on trade.

Bourne Leisure spokesperson and former Daily Mirror news man Andy Lines said: “We believe this proposed development should not go ahead under any circumstances and would be a blight on such a beautiful area of Lincolnshire countryside.

“Tens of thousands of visitors stay with us every year and if these wind turbines are given the all clear it will have a huge effect on the enjoyment of their holidays.”

But at yesterday’s public consultation, operations director for ASC, Mike Denny, said the farm, which will generate enough power for up to 11,770 homes, will have no “significant impact” on the local area.

The farm will be an extension of Anglian Water’s wind farm which will see two 105 metre high wind turbines erected in the coming weeks.

If given the go-ahead it will generate £250,000 in business rates for East Lindsey District Council and £50,000 in community grants every year for the next 25 years.

Mr Denney said: “We have carefully considered the location for the windfarm development by placing it next to an existing scheme. We are trying to develop within a specific area.

“We have done two years of environment and ecological studies and through that we have estabilshed there will be no significant effects other than some visual impact.”

An in-depth look at windfarms in Lincolnshire is appearing in tomorrow’s Grimsby Telegraph.

“Here in North America Toyota are stopping selling electric cars, and about time to. They have no range take time to charge, and fossil fueled electricity causes that dreaded CO2. Really why should w give a damn Wind mills don't reduce CO2 they only appear to. The coal fired alternators are spinning constantly.Without them blackouts would be very very frequent. Will is a total bust”

    “I mostly agree AfricanMeggy.

...I would question how you are powering your electric vehicles that produce no Co2?

These are another waste of space if you ask me, unless you are using nuclear (wind or other renewable), then they do produce CO2, just somewhere else, from a big stack at the power station and the manufacture of their batteries is a massively polluting process, which is unlikely ever to be ofset in their useful lifetime vs using a conventional car.

Besides CO2 is really not as bad a greehouse gas as you might think - water vapour is 10x more of a potent greenhouse gas and volcanic activity produces more CO2 than all mans activities.

That said, I still agree we should be doing something about it, but more from a there is only a finite reserve of fossil fuels (not for us to worry about, but somewhere down the line).”

“Sorry! I should have said if the wind exceeds a certain level they cannot even be used!”

“Wind Turbines are just a ticking the GREEN box exercise! They cost millions, blight the countryside, and cannot be used if the wind is too strong. The electricity output is of limited use as electricity is needed constantly and at high voltages. They are taking us all for a ride! We need to take REAL action to combat Global warming like restricting the size of car engines to reduce Co2.We need electric vehicles that produce no Co2.Prince Philip was 100% correct! These are devices to make millionaires out of certain individuals!! It is one BIG con story and so many are taken in!”

“But lets not forget that the £250,000 in business rates and the £50,000 in community grants (thats 7.5 million pounds over 25 years) is being paid for by US, the energy consumer.

This is OUR money coming from OUR pockets from the 12% on all our fuel bills to support making these 'so call green' companies getting rich at our expense, because the government have set the carbon credits far too high for sustainable investment, prefering the get rich snatch and grab approach.

Taking OUR money, removing taxes and an obscene amount of profit and then giving back a miniscule proportion to the community and trying to pass it off as a good investment is just outrageous!

I do believe we should invest in wind power as part of the countries overall strategy, but it should not be done by get rich quick investor groups and the expense of the general public. 95% of these turbine sites would not be built if it was not for the massive government hand outs, leaving only the larger companies to invest in the larger, more capital costly, but much more efficient off shore assets.

Wind yes, but not at ANY cost.”
