VIDEO: Thousands of women brave soaring temperatures to support cancer fight
"TOGETHER we can beat cancer".
That was the message from over 2,500 pink ladies who took over Cleethorpes yesterday for the fourth annual Race For Life at Meridian Point.

Hundreds of local women took part in the event, each with their own story to tell.
The event was started by the Mayor of North East Lincolnshire, Councillor Norma Lincoln, aims to raise over £25,000 for Cancer Research UK.
It was a record turnout in Cleethorpes for the event, which takes place across the country.
Women sprinted, jogged, walked and even pushed prams around a 5km course.

Alison Mackfall, event manager for Cancer Research UK, said: "Once again we have had an amazing turnout in Cleethorpes, and each one of them has a story to tell."
The 5km route started and finished at Meridian Point, taking in Cleethorpes Discovery Centre, Cleethorpes Leisure Centre and Kings Road.
The winner of the race was Becci Skelton, 26, a personal trainer from Barton-upon-Humber, who crossed the finish line in just 20minutes and 20 seconds.
She said: "I am a very competitive person so I was pleased to win."
Mrs Mackfall said: "Unfortunately cancer touches one in three people so the majority of people taking part are affected by cancer, meaning it was quite an emotional day for them.

The Mayor of North East Lincolnshire, Councillor Norma Lincoln and her consort Malcolm Lincoln start the race.

The Cleethorpes Race For Life 2010 gets under way.
"The event celebrates those who have survived cancer, but there is also the sad part about those who haven't made it through.
"The message is together, we can beat cancer."
Money raised will go towards finding cures and treatments for cancer. Visit www.raceforlife.org for more information.

Don't be ridiculous, I didn't put a dampener on anything!
I think what the ladies did was great, and I said as much.
All I did was ask a reasonable question - one which I expect many people have wondered about over the years. I got my answer (thanks San) and understand and accept the reasoning behind it.
Why do some people always have to get nasty and personal!
THAT'S whats *really* 'boring'.”

“This completely absurd, we should be proud of all the women who took part in this fantastic event, and celebrating their achievements. There are hundreds of events for men to take part in, all for an amazing cause - why not take part in one of them or do one of your own, rather than put a negative on something great that our local ladies have worked hard for?”

“Well done to everyone that took part.. agreed with other people here though.. If men are complaining that they weren't allowed to join in, get yourself out & do some other charity run or whatever as there is plenty about.. If its wearing pink that you really wanted to do, then no one is stopping you!!! Well done ladies :)”
