VOTE: Tollbar College leads the way with academy approval
STAFF at Tollbar Business and Enterprise College are today celebrating being officially named as one of the Government's new academies – putting it in line for more than £1-million in additional funding.
Earlier this year, we revealed that a total of 13 local schools had registered an interest in becoming academies – with six of these being able to "fast track" their application, as they were judged as "outstanding" by government inspectors Ofsted.

David Hampson, the principal and chief executive of Tollbar Business and Enterprise College, celebrates being one of first in the country to be granted academy status.
And yesterday Tollbar's application was among the first in the country to be rubber stamped by Government chiefs meaning that the school will have academy status when it re-opens on September 1 – the same day as the ribbon is cut on the Tollbar Edge sponsored Cleethorpes Academy.

“I saw this on the BBC Breakfast News and was wondering what bright spark designed the "logo" on the sign at the front gate. I get that they had to abbreviate the name but "TBA" in most people's minds stands for To Be Advised. Thanks for the laugh at 6am this morning!”

“Theres no disputing that Tollbar is a successful school , changing status to `Academy` brings with it yet another windfall of cash , just how much money does Hampson actually need ?
This is capitalism and empire building at its most worst.”

“Mark - everybody will suffer except for Mr Hampson.
Negativity John of Keelby? Look at the staff turnover, look at the number of cheap teachers being imported. These are not educational positives, they are business transactions.”

“i fully agree toll bar is a fantastic school but sending the best teachers to lindsey is hardly doing the present pupil any good is it.my daughters english and maths teachers are both moving,so has she enters year 11 she will be totally disrupted.i honestly think hampson is taking on to much and the end result will be every body suffers”

“I find it staggering to read such negativity. Please celebrate the good news in this area for once. You have two excellent schools in Toll Bar and in Healing. Both of the head teachers and their staff share their management and teaching skills with other schools in the area. Over time their results should improve too. Grimsby is towards the bottom of most league tables, with the exception of obesity, drugs and teenage pregnancy. Well done to Toll Bar and Healing for your excelent results. Well done too to all of the hardworking staff and pupils in the local schools. Do not let the negative comments of so many Telegraph readers detract from your hard won success.”
