“WARNING!!!
Don't be fooled by Council Press Releases and Government/Bridge Board spin.
Yes, the tolls are coming down by 50% for now for car users but the reductions to hauliers and the road transport industry is much less. Where do you think their costs go? They're passed on to the consumer ie you and me!
Also what is going to happen in a few years time? The tolls are only being frozen at £1.50 for a few years but the interest on the outstanding debt is not being frozen at all.
In order for the vehicles crossing the bridge to pay enough to clear the debt traffic would have to increase by over 60% from day 1. That's never going to happen.
So in a couple of years time the tolls will start to rise again. But don't worry because it will be different Councillors at the helm then who will be able to say "Wasn't me that agreed to this in 2012, it should have been sorted out better at the time."
And as for Gemmell saying "... things have now been sorted." He didn't want a reduction in the first place.
The population has been conned. The Governement, the Councils, the Bridge Board and the politicians should deliver what they promised.”
