EX-Grimsby Town midfielder Ciaran Toner has joined Harrogate Town – and ex-team-mate John McDermott.

The 29-year-old former Northern Ireland B international, pictured, was released by Rochdale at the end of last season and had been on trial at Luton Town.

But family commitments meant a permanent switch didn't happen, despite Hatters boss Richard Money's keenness to sign the midfield man.

Now he has joined up at the club where McDermott was appointed assistant manager this summer and made his debut in a 6-3 home defeat to Boston United on Saturday.

Toner left Blundell Park in 2008, after more than 100 appearances and 15 goals in three years.
