Tories' pledge over port rate collections
THE Tories have vowed to halt all collections of backdated port rates if they win the General Election.
Lord Michael Bates – the Westminster champion of the issue that has threatened thousands of jobs across the Humber, prompting a campaign against it by this newspaper – has spoken exclusively to the Grimsby Telegraph.
-

Lord Bates.
He said: "If elected we will have an immediate moratorium on collections of arrears, which is the real issue that is causing the problem.
"We will then initiate a review of the industry to find out a way forward."

“Would you care to explain your views to the estimated one and a half million UK nationals who live/work in other EU countries,Nigel? I am sure they will be more than happy to listen to that twaddle before lobbing you into the North Sea,English Channel,Bay of Biscay etc....”

“Those pesky Frenchies coming over here and signing on.
Come on Nigel, get a grip. Yes we have some immigration problems, but at the moment we don't seem to be overrun with Europeans from the wealthier nations!!”

“Your simplistic and naive view is one of the reasons your party is so alarming.
My country is not like my house. My country has moral, historical obligations to many nations and races in the world and yes, to satisfy all these obligations at one time is too much for us to do at once and so requires moderation.
The 'pull up the drawbridge' view of yours and people like you, but worse, of people less able to think than you, will push us into the middle ages.
We need to deal fairly, openly and honestly with the issues we have in the setting of the world of the 21st century.
Like it or not, we a a small part of a large world and he have a role to play in that world with all the other peoples.”

“Arthur you seem to have UKIP confused with the BNP. UKIP is nothing like the BNP.
UKIP is putting 3 British people up for election in Yorkshire and Humber who the BNP would like to export.
As far as immigration is concerned let me use this point to explain. You have a house with a front door. This door is opened to people that you (or your wife) would like to come in. After the people have entered you then close the door. The UK borders are not closeable. They can not be closed to EU nationals. We can not stop each and every man woman and child from France, Spain, Italy, Holland, Belgium etc etc from coming here tomorrow. These people can then claim benifits and bankrupt our already failing system.
Now you tell me that this is the correct way to run a country. Yes we let those people into this country if they are going to bring prosperity to the UK but we can not have a open door policy on immigration.
I do not have a problem with the migrants - I have a problem with the governments who have filled our country with immigrants. The people are not the problem - the lack of control over our border is a problem.”

“Nigel, N Lincs
All the main parties are disappointing, only the extreme parties are interesting, but there's the root of the problem, they're extreme.
To cite your example, UKIP, it's the party for people who are too frightened to go the whole hog and sign up for the BNP, yet who share the same, bigotted views but try and argue that they're only trying to prevent excessive immigration or get us out of Europe, or whatever the current, slim excuse is.
Maybe, just maybe, fear of fascists will force the major parties to address some of the fears that fuel the extremists. Worst case is that they ignore them and Powell's rivers of blood are much closer than we believe possible, after all, who would have believed Richard 'Barmy' Barnbrook could have got so far with his twisted views?”

“Since 1920's we have had labour and conservative in government. What do they mean vote for change? Vote for Conservative AGAIN???
The only way to vote for change is vote for UKIP. Plain and simple - you will get change. Withdrawal from the EU and allow us to run our country.
UKIP is the only real change.”

“Hey Bernard, I love Immingham and Killinghome, there are just one or two cretins who ruin their reputations.
I can understand people voting for change, but what exactly are you voting for when voting Conservative? So far no real commitments to anything. Oh, but David Cameron can go without notes when speaking to people, vote worthy? Not for me.”
