First Tory candidates for local elections announced
THE first batch of Tory candidates for this year's local elections have been unveiled, three months before the residents of North East Lincolnshire go to the polls.
Although only nine names have been announced at this stage, Conservative group leader Councillor Keith Brookes is hoping the party will be able to field a candidate in each of the 12 wards where a seat is up for grabs.

This year, voting will not take place in Waltham, Wolds or West Marsh wards, which only have two seats rather than three.
Among the nine hopefuls are some familiar faces, two first-time candidates, and a former Liberal Democrat.
One first-timer is Debbie Landymore (Croft Baker), practice manager at Dr Sharma's Surgery in North Sea Lane, Humberston, which is relocating to the new medical centre in Taylor's Avenue.
The other is Richard Hardy (Sidney Sussex), secretary of the New Cleethorpes Constitutional Club in Grimsby Road, who has lived in the ward for most of his life.
Sally Dixon will be wearing the blue rosette in Scartho, a year after standing in the same ward for the Lib Dems.
Bill Parkinson (Haverstoe) and John Fenty (Humberston & New Waltham) are both defending their seats, while Stewart Swinburn (Immingham) is hoping to get back onto the council after losing his seat at last year's election.
Bob Callison, who has stood in Croft Baker in the past two elections, is the party's candidate for Park, while David Hasthorpe, who previously stood in Sidney Sussex, will be aiming for victory in Freshney.
Phillip Dumbrell is again standing in East Marsh.
Mr Brookes said: "Our strategy is to get our candidates out in to the public domain so that people in the wards know who they are and if there are any issues they can approach them and find out how they would deal with them. It puts them on a test before the election.
"We have got a strong and exciting team and they will all really deliver results for the residents if they are elected.
"We are expecting more candidates to be available, and if we can fit them into a suitable ward than we will do so. But we won't deliberately push someone into a ward just for the sake of it."

“Can anyone explain why a Lib Dem candidate would leap into the fire with the conservatives in Scartho?
What does this woman know about the area other than it is a safe seat?”

“Question? Why would a LibDem jump ship to the Conservatives in Scartho?
Is it the policies?
Is it because they have values and standards?
Is it because they will be seen as more trustworthy and electable?
Or is it just a "safe" conservative ward and they will do anything to get elected.
Snouts in the trough?
You should have stayed with the LibDems and stood by your values and standards.”

“Is that the same dress Sally Dixon wore as a Lib Dem when she was beaten into fourth place by UKIP in Scartho?
Coat of many colours springs to mind!”

“Now its springtime the the animals are just coming out of hibernation and along with them this year we see the Labour party!
There's just one thing I'd like to know - where do you go for the rest of the year!
This year when it's time to vote just stop and think for a minute. Chose someone who works in your ward all year round and not just for a couple of months each year at election time.”

“Is this desperation by the candidate to get elected? Are the Lib Dems under frey bentos that bad that the rats are jumping ship?
Or is this the way forward? Dont like being an independent change to Conservative, more chance to get elected! Didnt get in as a Lib Dem change to Conservative! more chance of election in Scartho.
Values and standards? Integrity? I doubt it!
Same Conservative candidates different wrapper. The electorate will not be fooled!”

“Scartho ward voters will realise that Conservative Scartho has achieved nothing. Putting an ex Lib Dem in there who failed last year behind the UKIP surge will achieve nothing. I am sure the candidate fits the "Tory criterea" but Scartho wants and needs someone independant of the big boys to represent them. UKIP achieved 23% of the vote lets hope they can break the stranglehold the Conservatives have on Scartho.”

If Ernie Brown did some daft things when he was young, but has now turned his life around, then good for him!”
