Grimsby Town joint boss Paul Hurst happy to take points from promotion rivals Forest Green Rovers
Grimsby Town joint boss Paul Hurst gives his reaction to the Mariners victory over Forest Green Rovers last night:
" We'll see how valuable a three points that proves to be, but it's certainly a good three points against a team that's up there challenging and playing good football. With the exception of them hitting the post, we've limited them to very little and our game-plan panned out as I hoped it would after watching them on Saturday. I felt the longer the game went on, they'd get a little frustrated and we've got options to get the ball wide in Joe (Colbeck) and Marshy (Marcus Marshall), and really stretch the game. I thought we looked fitter and stronger. That's a basic thing for footballers, but that's how I saw that it might pan out, and it pretty much did exactly as I thought. There were times when we knew we wouldn't have the ball, but in general we kept a good shape to us and defended r well. The longer it went on second half, the more it looked a matter of time before the goal came. It was a little bit scrappy but it came from a good bit of pressure and a good ball in. We spoke before the game and said if we came away with a point it makes it a lot more difficult for Forest Green, so to take three is pleasing. There's still a long way to go and it's not over for them, that's for certain, but it gives us a bit of a cushion in terms of the play-offs. We're aiming for that top spot but there are a lot of other teams doing the same and on good runs. There have been one or two questions asked about performances and that was the first test in some people's eyes, in terms of playing a promotion rival. We passed that one with flying colours and we quickly move onto another one against Kidderminster on Saturday."
