The Signhills Academy pupil said: "Sylvanian Families are my favourites and I've got a house to put them all in."

Her grandad Terry Wood, 57, of Grimsby, said: "We've only just found out that she's in remission after two-and-a-half years of leukaemia.

"It's brilliant to be able to get something for free these days and we didn't mind queuing for half an hour because she loves them."

There to entertain the youngsters while they waited for their free toys was Sylvanian Families character, PC Bobby Roberts, who happily posed for photographs.

Siblings Gracie, 6, and Henry Howarth, 9, who attend Old Clee Primary School, were taking advantage of the giveaway for the second time – having picked up a free Moshi Monster last Saturday.

Mum Louise Howarth, 39, of Grimsby, said: "We don't mind getting up early to get a free treat. It's great that Ramsdens is giving away so many toys and we'll be back next week for the Dr Who toy.

"Henry and Gracie have enjoyed looking at the other toys and deciding what they might like for Christmas, too."

Kiarna, 6, and Kenzie Bratton, 4, of Grimsby, had an early start to get their freebies. Their grandmother, Jean Bratton, 56, said: "Last week, we were about 300th in the queue so we decided to come earlier this week and get near the front."

As reported, the promotion with the store – which is one of the largest independent toy retailers in the UK – will run throughout the summer holidays. And getting your hands on a free treat couldn't be easier. Simply take along three of the five vouchers printed in the Telegraph during the week to the toy department from 8.30am on Saturday morning. And, if you are one of the first 500 customers to do so, you will be able to claim your toy.

This Saturday's giveaway will be a £9.99 Dr Who toy, followed by a £9.99 Barbie doll the week after, Tech Decks in week five, Hasbro board games in week six, Airfix Spitfire kits in week seven and Disney Princess mini aqua mats in the final week.
