Tributes to hard-working local ambulanceman Stanley Gilleard
THERE are many people alive today who owe their lives to the work of ambulanceman Stanley Gilleard and his colleagues.
He died peacefully at Eaton Court residential home, aged 89. It was a home where he said he was treated "like a king".
His only daughter Jenny Lowe, of Doncaster, said: "He was a hard-working man and very caring."
He loved gardening and will plant flowers in her garden in his memory.

Mr Gilleard was born in 1923 near Goole to a farming family. He had two brothers, George and Ken, and a sister, Marion, all of whom have passed away.
His career began when he was recruited to do his National Service in the Army Medical Corps. Having qualified as a nurse, he later joined the ambulance service and went on to become an ambulance driver trainer.
He married his first wife Mary in 1947, who was a theatre sister at Grimsby Hospital. Daughter Jenny was born 10 years later. But, sadly, Mary died in 1967.
Mr Gilleard left the ambulance service and became the medical officer at Laporte's titanium factory in Stallingborough until he retired at 57.
He met and married Pat in 1977. She died in 1994.
Jenny said: "Dad used to tell us of his ambulance service days covering the Keelby and Irby areas. He told us how they turned out in all weather to carry patients, sometimes carrying them over fields covered in snow in order to get them to an ambulance.
"There will be a lot of people who are alive today thanks to him and his colleagues."
Jenny, 55, a chartered accountant, added: "He also did a lot of DIY and could turn his hand to anything like rewiring my home and taking engines out of cars."
Mr Gilleard was a devout Methodist and was a steward at Laceby Road Methodist Church. He was also a keen member of Cleethorpes Golf Club.
Funeral details
A service will be held at the Haven Methodist Church, Lord Street, Grimsby, at 10.15am tomorrow, followed by a service at Grimsby Crematorium at 11am.
