Farm blaze kills hundreds of pigs
A BLAZE which broke out at a Market Rasen farm on Friday evening has killed nearly 170 sows and over 500 piglets.
The fire, which is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault, broke out at North Moor Farm on Caistor Road at around 10pm on Friday.
It took a total of ten crews several hours to battle the blaze which caused '100 percent' damage to the piggery, a Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said.
Friday's incident is the second blaze to devastate the farm this year.
As reported, more than 2,000 pigs died in a fire at the farm in February, which was also blamed on an electrical fault.

“Oh yeah really funny....anyone taking the micky thought of the mess and devastation this kind of thing leaves behind,,the amount of money lost, the waste....'cutting out the middle man' might just be a joke but the owners of this farm have a heck of a lot to sort out now....the clean up alone is going to cost a fortune not to mention getting the farm anywere near the standards it needs to be to become any kind of business once again.
I do agree that after a second fire of this nature the place could do with a huge safety overhaul though.”
