Police close Northgate in Louth following electrical fault
POLICE have closed a busy road in Louth after a heavy downpour caused an electrical fault with underground cables – which may have caused an underground fire.
Northgate was cordoned off while crews from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue secured the area after the cables short circuited earlier this afternoon, emitting noxious fumes.

Crews are still investigating the full extent of the incident, including whether fire has broken out in the underground cavity.
A number of businesses and homes are believed to have experienced difficulties with their electrical supply, but it is not yet known if this is as a result of the incident.

A police spokesperson confirmed that a cordon is still in place along Northgate while Yorkshire Electricity tend to the problem.
She added that further heavy rain was expected, which could cause further complications.
