Police make an arrest in the hunt for attackers of Eddie Hindle
THE elderly victim of a brutal assault has thanked the public for their help – as police make an arrest in the hunt for the culprits.
Eddie Hindle, 72, suffered two broken wrists, four broken ribs, cuts and severe bruising when he was attacked just yards from his home in Weelsby Street, Grimsby, on July 11.

Yesterday, Humberside Police confirmed they had arrested a 27-year-old man from Grimsby in connection with the incident.
Mr Hindle – who is receiving treatment for lung cancer – was set upon as he made his way home from watching the World Cup final with friends, as reported.
Although the plucky pensioner tried to fight off his attackers, he was left defenceless after one of the men kicked him hard in the ribs.

Eddie Hindle recovers at his friend Anita Barratt's home in Grimsby.
Eddie came out of Grimsby's Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital on Monday. He is now recovering from his ordeal in the care of his close friend, Anita Barratt, 41.
Now Mr Hindle has appealed for more people to help the police with their investigation – and thanked those who already have.
Eddie said: "I am pleased they have arrested somebody in relation to the attack.
"Obviously now I want people to come forward so we can build a concrete case.
"It makes me angry that it happened and I just hope the culprits get their comeuppance.
"I want to thank all the people that have helped, especially Anita, who is a god-send, and all my friends who live nearby.
"It has been a bit traumatic but I have just got to get over it and get on with it. I have never given up and now I just have to struggle on."
Anita, who is like a daughter to Eddie, is looking after him until he feels strong enough to go home.
She said: "All I am bothered about is making sure Eddie gets better. I am pleased someone has been arrested - it shows you can run but you can't
hide.
"It will be a relief when Eddie's attackers are off the streets so they can't hurt anyone else."
At the time of going to press, the arrested man was being held in custody and had not been charged.
A force spokesman said: "Police have arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with the ongoing investigation into a serious incident in which a 72-year-old local man was seriously assaulted and left with serious injuries.
"Anyone with information, no matter how trivial it may seem, should come forward. It may still prove vital to the investigation."
If you can help, phone Humberside Police on 0845 60 60 222 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“Pleased that the scumbag is arrested for this attrocious attack on this poor gent. Hope the courts see fit to bang him away for a very long time, - and serve the full length of his sentence, without time out on licence!”

“This is really sad but isn't there another issue that we should be looking at - there are lots and lots, and projected to be more and more, elderly people in this area who have nobody to help them, nobody they can call on for a lift here or there in safety without paying for it, nobody to keep them company nobody to be coming and going and thereby make them less vulnerable to anyone watching them as an easy target.
If people who prey on the vulnerable in our society see that they are not as vulnerable as one might think having lots of visitors, family, friends around they may think twice.
Why was he walking on his own down the street from the pub as a vulnerable person and therefore a potential target? If he'd been a young girl would someone have offered to escort him? Have a chat to him on the way back to his lonely home perhaps? Make sure he got in safe and everything was OK there?
I'm not really being fair to him by assuming what he may need, or have and he clearly has a good friend in the lady featured, but in general do we as a society just ignore old people and let them get on with it and leave them vulnerable? Is there a lesson to be learned from this?
It's OK getting up in arms about it when an older person is assaulted, but why aren't we as a society helping to keep them safe before this kind of thing happens?”

“No chance of them getting what they deserve.
The prisons are full: no more room for criminals, but always room for someone not paying their council tax or TV license.
Here in shrewsbury the police have just CAUTIONED someone for grooming and having sex with his partners 15 year old daughter.... Apparently this is no longer a prisonable offence. I know for a FACT that this was done because to give a non custodial for such a crime would have sparked outrage. Simple answer: dont put him in court, dont advertsie what he has done and the general public dont know how bad it has got.
There has never been a better time to be a criminal.
Disgusting.”
