Bride Wars
Bride Wars
Certificate: PG, 89 min
-

Genre: Comedy
Stars: Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway.
Director: Gary Winick
Plot: Nothing is more stressful than the day a woman gets married.
In Bride Wars, fate jeopardises the happy day of two pals and lights the touch-paper on an increasingly bitter war of words and actions.
What we think: This is one of those films that you know you're either going to love or hate just from the title alone – and this is strictly a chick flick, unless the thought of Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway fighting in the aisle appeals. Even then, women could well be affronted by the rather stereotyped versions of brides-to-be presented to them.
Rating:
Showing at: Parkway Cinema, Playhouse Louth.
Defiance
Certificate: 15, 136 min
Genre: Drama/action
Stars: Daniel Craig, Jamie Bell and Liev Schreiber.
Director: Edward Zwick.
Plot: Three Jewish brothers escape Nazi-occupied Poland into the Belarussian forest, where they join Russian resistance fighters and endeavour to build a village to protect themselves and others.
What we think: Edward Zwick's historical drama relates a true-life tale of heroism during the Holocaust, focusing on three Jewish brothers (Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber, Jamie Bell), who shelter with fellow refugees in the dense forests of Belarussia. Craig lacks spark in his pivotal role, but skirmishes between the Germans and rebels are well choreographed.
