Grimsby swimmer Kate Haywood ready to fly the flag for Britain
GRIMSBY swimmer Kate Haywood insists it is high time she stopped going through the motions and started making an international impact.
The 23-year-old looked to have a golden career ahead of her after claiming her first senior international medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games as part of England's 4x100m medley relay team.

But despite upgrading that to silver in 2006 and also claiming the same colour in the 50m breaststroke at the European Championships that year, Haywood has yet to live up to her potential.
Two world finals and an Olympic semi-final have followed since her efforts in Budapest four years ago but not another medal, with a serious hip injury suffered last year summing up her woes.
However, with 2010 presenting Haywood with the opportunity to race at the European Championships and potentially the Commonwealth Games, she has vowed to change her luck.
"I was out for a while because of my hip injury and I think it makes you think about things a lot more and it has made me a lot more determined," said Haywood – who was officially confirmed on the 35-strong British team for the Europeans at a warm-weather training camp, powered by British Gas, in Mallorca this week.
"In the past I have just floated along and gone to competitions and not made much of a difference.
"I haven't done any best times and I have been really disappointed but now I just want to be more focused and do better."
