Untouched views are what the countryside is all about
IN April, I wrote a letter to Viewpoint signed "Concerned townie".
In his letter on May 14, he asked the question "Was I one of the people who visit the country three times a year and have I ever lived in the wilds?"
To answer this, I would like to point out to you I live within 50 metres and walk every day in the country and, yes, I have lived in the "wilds", because I am the son of a local farmer.
To the lady from Barton blaming developers for the loss of land. I fully agree with you, but at least you can vote out your local councillors and get someone in who cares.
To lady farmer who says farmers are not allowed to pull up hedgerows, that's true, but why did that law have to come into being? And how many farmers have taken up the offer of grants to replace the said hedgerows?
And from T Wilkinson (sorry if this is the wrong name), I would love him to show me where all these hares and foxes are running about happily and, most of all, I would love him to show me where all these fields are where farmers have kindly left 30 metres of land around their fields to promote our wildlife.
I would like anyone to travel from Bluestone in Immingham towards Habrough Church, turn right, next right and after about a mile, park your car and just take a look around you and tell me if what you see is nothing more than countryside vandalism.
My wife and I travel regularly along Caistor High Street (Caistor to Horncastle) – that's what countryside is all about, untouched and kept by farmers just like their ancestors for many years before them.
Concerned Townie,
Immingham (full name and address supplied).
