Video: Digger hits bridge on A180 (updated)
A LORRY carrying a JCB digger crashed as it tried to travel under a bridge on the A180.
One lane of the eastbound carriageway remained closed between Immingham and Stallingborough this morning, following the accident at about 4.45pm yesterday.
It is understood that the lorry’s load was too big to pass under the bridge.
The digger was badly damaged, and damage was also caused to the bridge.

Concrete and other debris showered the motorway.
Initially, traffic was only temporarily affected and was able to pass by the scene relatively quickly.
However, officers closed the lane again shortly after 6pm to assess to integrity of the bridge.
A diversion is in place via the A160 and A1173.

“When he joined the motorway at stallingborough he would have already gone under 1 bridge which would be station road before hitting the next bridge stallingborough road so what someone says below about different heighs is probably true, where all humans at the end of the day and make mistakes”

“Re Truckdriver1's post: Bridges only have to be signed if 16' or under! And he obviously hadn't checked the heigh of his load as he came on at Immingham and hadn't gone under any bridges. However, I do believe he had to change his underwear!!”

“and if you wish to pick up on the 'follwed' mistake, then you should know that this occurred due to me being able to type very quickly and not picking up on my mistake, not because I am illiterate.”

“Don't know if any of you have ever looked at the bridges on the a180 when a lorry is going under some are lower then others so if the driver is set up for 16"6 and if it's got under the rest before hitting that on should we be asking highways to check the height of the one what got hit !”
