The jets, which are based at RAF Scampton, arrived in the skies above Cleethorpes at around 2.30pm this afternoon.

    “Jack-knife
Please read my post again, I mention IMHO which means (In my honest opinion) below that is a link, if you click it you should see a video of the superb English electric lightning.

You are correct the MOD does not have a say on what can fly it is the aviation licencing body that governs this and I can't remember it's exact name but that is the main reason the lightning is grounded.

Believe me a lot of time and money as been spent and still is to get a lightning airborne. A lot of my youth was spent with three or four mates cycling to No 3 crash gate at Binbrook to watch them take off and land.

I have no wish to score points off you Life's too short. Yes I made a crass remark about you going to Blundell Park and for that I apologise.

    All the best Grimoldie”

    “Grim,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the both the Lancaster and Vulcan are bomber, not fighter planes?

Doe's the MOD have any say over aircraft that are no longer in RAF service?

I don't know what imho is, is it the name of a fighter jet I've not heard of?

I too would like to see the Vulcan in the sky again and soon.”

“I think Cleethorpes should be very proud of their air show, it takes a massive amount of effort, skill and financial risk to stage this type of event. As far as I understand it the event itself was created by three local people who decided to actually get on and do something rather than just blather about it. Any first year event will be a bit tentative and possibly there were a few ragged edges but there was no doubt in my mind that the important bits were run by professionals. The pilots, flying organisers, air traffic controllers, commentators and the Tannoy were all top notch and I am sure anyone in their right mind would prefer to lose the Lancaster out of the display for safety reasons rather than lose the aircraft permanently for the sake of taking a risky decision. The reason that we have still got this wonderful aircraft fully airworthy after all these years is that the RAF run it to very strict rules. To compare its operation today to the war is stupid, read your history, many bomber and fighter crews were killed or injured in take off and landing incidents. My family really enjoyed the show and it took us to Cleethorpes where perhaps we would not have bothered to go to without it. There were many thousands of people there who also seemed to be enjoying themselves and you couldnt get a seat in a cafe or restaraut for love or money so it must have done the town some good financially.
Very well done to all concerned and we are looking forwards to a bigger and better show next year. A brilliant day out for free!!”

“I drove to the airshow last weekend with my family and was someone who
used the car parks on both days, I would just like to point out a few
things to some of the 'more negative' commentators.

If you look on the top right hand side of this page when you access
the site, you will notice an advert for Waddington Air Show and their
prices......£28 per adult and £12 per adult on the day - I would not
have had much change from £90 for my family of four if I bought a
brochure as well - so, I was very happy to pay the £10 charge on the
Saturday - it included parking, return buses AND a brochure. What else
do you want when you've got to see World Famous acts for FREE.....!!

If, like me, you travel to other airshows around the Country, you
may also be aware that the RAF are 'very precious' about their vintage
aircraft - it was the Icelandic Ash Cloud when there was a show on at
Duxford - all other vintage aircraft flew EXCEPT the Battle of Britain
Memorial Flight, the RAF simply wouldn't let them fly, so Saturdays
last minute cancellation, though very disappointing, is not
surprising to people who are genuinely interested in these aircraft.
I see from local BBC Website that the Vulcan will not be flying at the
Armed Forces display... that's grounded for 4-6 weeks and I
haven't seen any notification to the public about that?

On a final note, I could say much more, all of my family were very
pleased to have attended on both days, we have some fantastic photos
that we will treasure for a long time and our children have
experienced seeing the 'Worlds best' on their doorstep. Very well done
to all concerned, best wishes for another fantastic weekend next year
and beyond. Hopefully you will get more backing from local traders and
companies to make it bigger and better. Chocks Away.......”

“It does take a massive effort just to keep these old planes airborne. Mostly by volunteers giving up there spare time. Not sure but I think there is only two Lancaster's able to fly, another use to do taxi rides only at East kirkby airfield near Lincoln. The Vulcan is another rarity only one I think is air worthy. One day MOD allowing we may once again get to see this beauty grace the skies of Lincs, imho the greatest fighter jet of all time still holds the record for the fastest vertical climb I believe.

“grimrich..........last I'll mention, but are we at war in the UK now? No. Is this a vintage, fragile and limited airtime on airframe aircraft? Yes. Is it a flying memorial rather than barnstorming wingwalking thrill plane? Yes. Is it safer to fly it in safe favourable conditions rather than unsafe conditions just to fulfill a booking? Yes it is, else we might have no aircraft in the future to look at. There will be other times, but there is only 1 aircraft.
It WAS a dissapointment, but you can't expect a pensioner to go beyond the limits anymore.”

    “How miserable are you lot?!

It was a FREE event! what more can you ask for?!

People keep moaning about there only being 7 red arrows... this is a mark of respect to the 2 pilots who lost their lives (enertaining people like ourselves!!) Did it spoil the display there only being 7, NO!!

Yes, maybe some aircrafts didnt show, and the time table was a little sporadic, but it was FREE, and enjoyable for thousands of people. There really is no need to be so negative!

Im sure it took alot of organising, and yes, if it was to be done again next year, im pretty sure there are things that could be improved, but overall, credit where credit is due, well done!! The resort needs more events like this.”
