“In a way I completely agree with you, grimrich, we shouldn't be mourning the demise of any of these companies as they have reaped what they have sowed. However it's highly unlikely that the thousands of jobs lost nationally by the demise of these high street chains will be picked up by the online retailers or that independent retailers will arise to take their place. I feel terribly sad for the families affected by these closures.
I honestly don't know where the new 82,000 jobs appeared from in the last set of unemployment figures? Temporary Christmas workers?”

“Bye bye Jessops, bye bye HMV, bye bye Blockbuster. Guess you're all reaping what you sowed. I like many others remember a time only 20 years ago when town had a host of good independent record, camera and video rental stores. Then these corporate monster came along and either bought them out or undercut them till they went bust. They all built massive empires turning every city and town into a clone of all the others. Well now the boot is on the other foot and the internet has done the same to them. I am totally sorry for the innocent staff who have lost their jobs because they are going to suffer but did these companies mourn when they destroyed our old high streets? I don't bloody think so. For the last 20+ years they have turned our towns and cities into homogenised carbon copies of everywhere else making millions in the process. You can bet your sweet ass the big corporate bosses in charge haven't lost any money from the closures. Lets hope next time they think twice before they start empire building at everyone else's expense. Support your local shops folks coz the big guys don't give a toss about you.”

“Hope they don't go completely. I find them to be a decent place to trade in old DVDs and games. Their prices for new releases aren't bad either.”
