HE'S been a champion at karate and kickboxing – now boxer Wayne Bloy has set his sights on completing the set.

The Grimsby professional continues his pursuit of a title dream with an undercard fight in the 'City Hall Showdown' in Hull on Friday.

At 30, Bloy admits that he is in the twilight of his career, but is targeting one more shot at a title before hanging up his gloves for good.

He came out of retirement last year to do just that and in June, he out-pointed Jonathan Fry in a super featherweight bout in Hull – his first triumph since September 2007.

Now, after linking up with Andy Cox, pictured right, head coach at the Grimsby Boxing Academy (GBA), Bloy is confident of finally capturing the one contact sport crown that has so far eluded him.

Speaking at the Church Street gym ahead of Friday's fight, Bloy said: "I've always said that I want another title fight to finish off what I've started.

"I was a champion at traditional karate, champion at freestyle karate, champion kickboxer and I want to be a champion boxer.

"Knowing that this could be my last shot definitely adds a bit of spice to it.

"Should it fail on Friday – it's not a case of coming back again, this is it as you don't see that many boxers going for that much longer after turning 30.

"For me, I just want that title shot and then that's me done."

Bloy, whose record currently stands at six wins, five defeats and one draw, is the GBA's first pro signing and believes his partnership with Cox can take him to the next level.

"It's been great to join up with Andy," he said.

"It wasn't a slight on my other trainer Mick Blythin; it's just that he was working full-time and struggling to spend as much time with me as both of us would have liked.

"I just felt that if I wanted to take myself to the next level, I needed to bring someone else in.

"I knew Andy, I could see the work that he's doing with the amateur scene and I was impressed with it.

"So I approached him about getting on board and he was more than happy to do that.

"Andy and Mick will work together along with Stevie Smith from Hull and hopefully we'll see some results from that."

He added: "Andy has definitely given me a different approach.

"He is very knowledgeable about the amateur game and he's got some different views to what I've been used to in the past.

"Together we're working on things that I haven't done before so it's definitely adding to me as a fighter.

"I've been with some great trainers in my career and they've all been fantastic in their own right, but everyone brings something different to the table.

"It's something new with Andy and hopefully it will pay off on Friday.

"I know I've still got a big title fight in me, if you haven't got that belief there's no point doing it.

"I'll get through this fight and then look at what's on the table.

"But I know that I haven't got a massive amount of time now and the options will be limited, so I've got to take my opportunities when they come my way and make them count."
