Villa Holidays on the Costa Blanca
The Costa Blanca is in the Alicante region of Spain and takes in the Mediterranean coast from Dénia in the north to Pilar de la Horadada in the south, and encompasses some of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe.
The phrase ‘Costa Blanca’ literally means "White Coast" in Spanish and was actually coined as a phrase by an anonymous 'Mad Men' style advertising executive in the late Fifties for the opening of the regularly scheduled flight service between London and Valencia by the airline BEA.
From these humble beginnings, the region is now one of the most popular and busiest holiday destinations in the world, with Benidorm being perhaps the most famous of all Costa Blanca resorts.
Over five million tourists visit Benidorm each year and that number is mainly made up of families, as it is also extremely popular with the Spanish people themselves. The twin beaches of the bay are Playa de Levante and Playa de Poniente and together they make up a glorious stretch of seaside sand that extends over a length of more than three miles.
Away from the beach itself there are formidable attractions such as Aqualandia, which is the biggest themed water park in Europe. Just outside the city, the many golf courses on offer are quickly establishing the area an increasingly global reputation, with the nearest course to Benidorm itself being the Real de Faula, designed by Jack Nicklaus.
Although the centre of Benidorm is quite intensively built up and features many excellent hotels and apartment accommodation blocks, there are a wealth of villas available to rent so that you can enjoy all that the region has to offer whilst having more privacy and the ability to pick and choose how you spend your time.
Major villa rental companies, such as James Villas, offer a fantastic selection, along with the fact that their packages include all travel arrangements and self-catering supplies. Booking this type of villa rental through reputable companies such as James Villas also means that you are covered by the ABTA and ATOL guarantees, which protect your money should any problems occur.
Villas to rent in Spain along the Costa Blanca don't simply include the areas around Benidorm itself. Moraira is a 30 minute drive north and is a particular favourite for Spanish families. The town began as a fishing village and its heritage is seen today in the port and La Lonja fish market, which hold traditional fish auctions every morning. The main fish restaurants are nearby on the seafront whilst traditional tapas restaurants can be found in the main square by the imposing church.
Strict planning regulations have prevented over-development in the area, which means there are many villas in Moraira available to rent and also makes enjoying the three sandy beaches a more relaxing experience.
Platja de l’Ampolla is Moraira’s main beach and lies only a few minutes away from the fish market itself. Just over a mile's walk further north, Platja del Portet also has a long beach where a number of bars and cafes overlook golden sands and clear blue waters
