“What I was getting at was that some schools had already declared that they would be shut tomorrow but it hadn't been put on the website a couple of hours later.
It was the same this morning. At 7.30 the website was still showing that it was last updated at 6.00.”

“That won't be a full list, Norman. Quite a lot of schools will wait until morning to make a decision. I don't expect many to be open if they weren't today.. Conditions aren't going to get better, the roads are terribly icy!”

“I also posted this about ten posts back:
"Sorry was just being sarcastic. Also missing the usual teacher bashing
brigade who seemed to have disappeared today. They're probably still in bed. I am a teacher and sat in front of a nice cosy fire."
Nice to see the previous moaners have shut up today though isn't it? My comment was ironic as I realise many are unable to get to work and this is the reason people have stopped complaining about 'lazy' teachers.”

“South Parade closed Thursday, right decision..its treacherous out there and with the temperatures plummeting is only going to get worse. I'd imagine most schools being closed rest of the week.”

“note to non teaching profession: what would you prefer 1. school bus crashed in the snow with your child on it. 20 pupils fallen in playground suffering broken bones
OR
2. school closed due to adverse weather conditions????
Schools don't close at the drop of a hat. I am a teacher and a parent and I would not want my child on a school bus in this weather or even the weather we had when it first started snowing. It is down to the Head Teacher and the bus companies who decide if schools stay open, not the actual teachers! If buses won't bring pupils. Teachers don't have any pupils to teach. Back in our school days we all went to the local school on foot so that is the only reason why schools stayed open back then!
Getting sick of people blaming teachers for the school closing. Get enough of that when I listen to Peter Levy on the news! So get out of the dark ages and into the real world you idiots who are always moaning about school closures!”

“yet again another smarmy fool leaving a comment about lazy teachers! have you not looked out of your window today? in scartho we have a couple of foot of snow, recieved my text last night to say my daughters school was shut, not that i had any intention of sending her anyway due to the persistant snow, the state of the roads and the fact that some idiots refuse to leave their cars at home when many roads up here are virtually impossible to get down, my workplace closed today and i would of struggled to get in as there is no buses, i welcomed the school closure as i do actually care about my childs safety and it would of taken us at least 40 mins this morning to complete a 10 min journey on foot, bearing in mind we walk everyday, so mr smarmy please shut up and continue to view the world from your armchair! silly fool”

“I too Work in a school. If I was a parent I would not allow, under any circumstances allow my childs school to open if 1) there were not enough teachers to supervise and 2) having to travel to and from school. Im sure people would be devasted to hear that someone got injured at school due to inadequate supervision (Just like nursey and after school clubs)
Fred- you would be complaining if the teachers are not good enough so they get good teachers from outside the area.. Guess what now Fred moans that they cant get in. Dont blame them I woudnt. I came home last night from lincoln and took me 4 hours to get home. Fred needs to grow up.”

“Fred of Grimsby, how dare you call teachers lazy, I am a teaching assistant, and we all work bl***y hard, the teachers do a lot of work at home and some stay back at school till 7 in the evening, I certainly wouldn't risk having an accident to get to work just to please people like you.”

“My sister works in a private nursery and it IS closed today!!
Whats wrong with having a few snow days..in the US we just add it on to another term, it does not disrupt the kids education. Its not like everyone else is at school and they are getting left behind!!
I mean really? its not shocking to know that most staff do not live near their school. Therefore in this kind of weather how unrealistic is it to think they can get in?
Teachers are not lazy, even when they are at home they have so much paperwork or lesson planning to do.
Go and do something positive with your time and actually spend some fun free time interacting with your kids.
We have four and love our snow days here in the US. Gives the kids a day to actually be....kids! You should try enjoying them while you can in my opinion.
Stay safe and keep warm...and if you do have to travel out in the car, don't forget to take a blanket and a drink with you, just in case you do get stuck.”
