CLEETHORPES' famous Willy's Pub and Brewery has been a popular nightspot ever since it opened its doors 26 years ago.

From DJ nights to curry nights, the venue on Highcliff Road which overlooks the beach, attracts pub-goers aged 18 to 80.

The vibrant bar, owned by Bill Parkinson and Margaret Cracknell is a long-term entry in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, offering delicious home-cooked dishes, its own brewed Willy's Original ale, guest beers, ciders and bottled drinks.

While other pubs and clubs in the area have struggled during difficult economic times, Willy's has continued to buzz and bar manager Jo Symonds said since the smoking ban, the food side of the business has even picked up. She said: "Willy's has an advantage because it is unique and the brewery is also the only one in the area.

"I believe the nearest from here is Fulstow Brewery in Louth.

"Willy's Original has always been a hit with customers and we also have Willy's Old Groyne out at Christmas. People come in just to look for it.

"We have always been busy and a lot of people have been coming in here since it opened.

"We have our regular tea-time crowd, then different people in on a weekend – everyone from older couples to families and young people.

"The food here is excellent value for money and even when some areas dropped off due to the credit crunch, the lunch-time trade picked up.

"I think that's also to do with the smoking ban. People can come in with children and enjoy a meal."

Staff said, since the pub opened, about 1.5-million pints of beer have been brewed on the premises, or approximately nine barrels a week.

Willy's has two bars, one downstairs and one upstairs, is open on weekends and for functions. It also has a backyard for smokers and a patio with a shelter at the front of the premises.

Supper club is held on a Monday and Tuesday at the pub from 5pm to 8pm, with two choices for £3.25. Thursday is curry night from 5pm to 8pm, at £4.25 for a choice of four different curries.

Food is normally served at Willy's from Monday to Friday, 12pm to 2.30pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 12pm to 3pm.

Willy's is open seven days a week, 10.30am until 11.30pm Monday to Thursday, 10am until 2am Friday and Saturday and 11am to about midnight on Sundays. Call (01472) 602145.
