AN intriguing match format will be used at Wold View Fisheries tomorrow.

The contest will involve the bronze and gold lakes, with anglers split evenly between the two.

Competitors will then be paired up with an angler fishing on the other lake.

It's one of some fantastic new ideas the fishery has got to attract anglers, but I will apologise in advance for anyone who pairs up with me if I'm able to take part.

But if you are lucky enough to draw one of the 'stars' of the complex, they might be able to pass on their secrets to help you win the pairs competition.

Wold View has been fishing well and another batch has been added to the waters this week.

The new owner has put some money and prizes on the table and there will be four matches over the next four consecutive Sundays.

I visited Wold View last Sunday. It was nice to see the regulars there and everyone was friendly.

It was a fairly decent day, the wind had died down and it wasn't too cold.

Terry Jackson had a fish hooked within minutes of the start.

Dave Berry was also having bites – but lost six fish in the first hour and that cost him dearly.

He changed his hair rig and started to land the carp that were making their escape previously.

Terry, though, was still catching, on both the pole and the bomb – and to me looked a certain winner.

But at Wold View you can never count out Andy Bryant.

On peg 18, next to Dave, he was catching the odd fish here and there, using the bomb throughout.

Terry did clinch the win, however, with 42.6lb from peg 26. Next in was Andy, with 39.12lb.

Dave came third, with 29.8lb off peg 20, and was left to rue those lost fish.

Windy conditions meant fishing the pole was horrendous during the Saturday match. Most anglers fished the bomb or the feeder.

Chris Mack left it late to clinch victory – he took advantage when the angler next door to him packed up.

He flicked a bomb to his pole line and caught three fish in as many casts.

Chris bagged 19.12lb on peg 28 to net the win. Neil Spence was second, on 18.12lb, and Graham Garrod's 16.8lb haul earned him third spot.

The anglers at Froghall Fisheries had their hands full with the weather conditions on Saturday.

Louth's Steve Padgett does not feature in the prizes very often, but this was his day. He used the waggler to good affect and netted some nice fish, including a carp weighing double figures.

And Steve's total of 17.8lb was way ahead of the opposition.

Lee Robinson was second, on 12.1lb, and veteran George McKay third, with 7.12lb.

The intention was for a lot more carp to be added to the pond this week, and several hundred fish were set to be introduced to the big lake this weekend.
